Stand Alone Presentation

The embedded presentation is an overview of what it means in this day and age to be a digital native, as told by the highlights of Deconstructing Digital Natives: Young People, Technology and the New Literacies Edited by Michael Thomas. Being a digital native is thought of by many as a negative thing, and thought of as something that includes all young people today. I hope to convey many characteristics about these digital natives in hopes to further understand the learners that we as educators are working with in our classrooms, and break the negative connotation that is associated with this term. The more that we understand the strengths and weaknesses of our learners, the better we can accommodate their educational experience to fit their learning needs. This includes understanding that all students are not digital natives. There are certain characteristics that the student must have in order to truly be a digital native, and knowing what characteristics these are, hopefully we can better identify learners who are fluent with technology and those who still need aided in their digital endeavors. We as teachers can also learn from these digital natives that we may have in class and have other students learn from them as well.

  1. Natalie,
I thought your presentation was great! Your pictures went right along with your text. Every slide made me think about how it is today for digital natives. All of your text was very easy to read and understand. I really liked the music as well. I really liked how your presentation flowed from one slide to the other and introduced a different fact from the text.
    Great Job!!

  2. I really enjoyed watching your presentation. I found myself smiling at some of the slides while I was reading. I was able to read all your slides with ease and liked how you changed to font color with your slides. The images you chose to represent your text were very creative. I liked how you chose images that didn’t necessarily have to do with technology; but the image along with the text, made me “read” more into the image. Very well done!

  3. I think you have a good grasp on what a digital native is. I think that you're choice of simple presentation colors and music provide the viewer with a non distracted view and allows them to focus on the point of the presentation. I can see that you put a lot of thought into your slides and chose your words carefully, the pictures that you chose to go along with the words fits well. After watching your presentation if I did not know anything about the content previously I would now be well informed.

  4. I loved your presentation! The music got me excited to flip to the next slide to see what you chose as and image and what you put down as text. The slide that I thought was the strongest was "media separates generations." It really made me think and almost felt a little sad by the image. You really captured what a digital native is and what they are about.
