  1. Natalie,
Our case studies are very similar. Both of our young girls like to socialize online and have the same technology resources at their home. The young person that I interviewed also liked to play games and look up music and videos on YouTube. When it comes to schooling our interviewees have the same response, that they only use the computers at school for research and would most likely go to Google first. My interview opened my eyes a lot when it comes to looking at technology use in classrooms and in school in general.

  2. At 11, I was into New Kids on the Block and my sources of information were limited to magazines. I can’t imagine what I would have done with 24/7 access to information on them. I had a 12 year old girl in an after school program who was obsessed with One Direction. One day she arrived in tears after finding out that one of them was rumored to be engaged. That was a new one to me—how to handle tears over a celebrity that she’d never met, let alone twice her age.

Anyway, like you I also chose an 11 year old to interview; both of which spend a lot of their time looking up information that is interesting to them, take and share images (although mine did not mention using Instagram), and socialize with their peers. I really liked that you bridged her Google search for One Direction as a jumping point to researching other information. Maurene appears to engage in the social aspects of technology often as well. Social engagement facilitated with technology in the classroom that enhances learning is another opportunity for technology integration.
